My name
is Ronald McMullen. I was born and raised in Indiana. The first
camera I owned was given to me at age 12. From there I studied photographic
magazines and books very closely, learning every fact about
how the images were created. It was an art that I had seemingly been
blessed with and I took full advantage of it. Through all of
my high school years, I was chief photographer and darkroom
controller. This allowed me to
collect some of the greatest exposure and knowledge to the
art which would become my passion and career. |
Today’s
Digital Camera’s are terrific but I grew up learning
the basics in the ‘old school’ of photography.
Using the most basic of film cameras,
I grasped the ideas of exposure and composition. The darkroom
allowed me to learn the techniques of developing and printing
my images in black and white.
After mastering those levels, I wanted to achieve higher
goals so I convinced my advisor to let me try color film and
printing in the darkroom. For a junior in high school to
work with color film & prints was unheard of! It was
more difficult but the challenge
of mastering this level was too exciting. Along with color
and black & white, I learned the techniques of darkroom
printing special effects. These
are essentially what I use everyday, but now they are available
to me at the click of a mouse. |
Immediately
out of high school, while at college, I landed a job as a
press photographer for the newspaper. I would eventually
become a lead photographer there
and hundreds of my photographs were front page news, sports
or human interest images. Many images were also picked
up by newspapers across the country as well. I gained much
more experience by working as a press photographer. Much
of my entire life’s work
is available to view in the portfolio section of the website. |
At age 18, I
photographed my first wedding and shortly after that
had many weddings booked for the upcoming seasons.
Deciding to go out on
my own was the best decision that I could have made.
A name was born and so was the pathway to a successful
career. |
|
I would never
give up all my experience with manual focus, exposures
and darkroom knowledge because it has made me the photographer
that I am. |
